Best way to get those INCREDIBLE pictures?

So all of a sudden, my little boy Ralph has grown up so much! It's only been a month and he's gone from floppy ears and oversized paws to straight ears and, well, paws that look normal.

And I haven't taken any good pictures! Whenever I try, they always turn out blurry or I end up with only half a puppy in the shot. Does anyone have any good advice on taking action pictures? I'm using a digital camera (although I might have to bring in the big guns and borrow my Dad's trusty old Canon Rebel). Plus, my fiance's coming to town for the weekend, so I'm hoping that he'll be able to do a little bit of distracting so Ralph doesn't keep running right up to me. (Good for me, bad for pictures.)
