Scot, who is now 9.5 weeks old, is so food crazy it's making me uneasy. He is getting fed more than the directions on the bag say (2 cups of kibble per day), plus occasional treats, but just about does somersaults when he has any notion that I've got food available. I have been using part of his meals to train (sits, downs, recalls, targeting, go to place, etc.), and then afterward giving him the rest in the bowl. But during the few minutes of the training session, he will wander away from me to search the room for the rest of the food ( I usually have the bowl sitting on a counter or somewhere out of his reach), and barking when he can't find it. He wants it ALL NOW, not just the few pieces I have in my pocket for training. Today he growled and started frantic gulping when I reached toward his bowl after putting it down for him. I took it away and had him sit, twice, but he growled again when I put it back down.
Again, this is just kibble, not fabulous treats. I will try dropping great stuff in the bowl for him. Any other suggestions?
