Our wonderful 11 week old puppy is having some difficulty adjusting to her crate during the day. She is perfectly fine in the crate at night. When we put her in at night we say goodnight, close the door, and turn off the light. No whining, and she seems perfectly content. During the day is a whole other story. If we put her in there for a nap, or to have some calm time with a treat she tends to ignore the treat and whine, howl, dig at the crate, anything to try and get out of there. Also, she starts to freak out when crate her and then leave the house. We believe she does eventually calm down because when we get home, she is no longer whining. However, it does not take her long to start back up again once we are through the door. We dont let her out while she is whining because we dont want to encourage that behavior but she can go at it for over an hour - at the top of her lungs. We are very concerned about this as it cannot be healthy for her. To try and make the crate a happy place, we have put a baby blanket with scents of her siblings in there, a stuffed animal that she only gets when in the crate, blankets, and t-shirts that have our scents on them. We have even tried hiding treats in her crate, which works until the treats are gone and she wants out again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
