The scene yesterday morning: a boule of Rosemary Olive Oil Bread in wrapper on the kitchen counter.
The scene yesterday afternoon: the torn wrapper from the bread in the den, nary a breadcrumb to be found. After vowing that a certain dog would be skipping dinner, we went for a long walk.
The discussion with husband yesterday mid-afternoon when he discovered the torn bread wrapper back on the counter: wrapper was actually in the den, but I put it on the counter, no I did not find the plastic inner wrapper, I had forgotten about that. Hope Jeff didn't eat that, though it seems unlikely b/c he doesn't eat paper and wrappers in general. He seemed fine on our walk, but we'll keep an eye on him just in case. Quick sweep of the house did not uncover the plastic wrapper.
The scene last night: Jeff being pesky for his dinner (he doesn't do this). Hey, fella, with a pound of bread in you, you shouldn't be hungry, but I'll feed you a light dinner.
Later, I decided to read for a bit before getting my own dinner so I went into my office (upstairs), which I have recently reclaimed. Hmm, pillow on the floor in front of my overstuffed recliner. Must have knocked it off when I got up the last time, but I wonder why I didn't notice it. A sweater is crumpled in the corner, but I had thrown that sweater onto the chair the night before when I came home from work. I put the pillow on the chair and picked up the sweater and...there it was. The boule of bread, still in the--albeit torn--plastic bag, in perfect shape, stuffed into the corner of my chair! I preserved the scene to show DH when he came back from running errands, then we reclaimed the bread.
Around bedtime last night, Jeff went upstairs while DH and I were still watching TV. I heard a thump, thump, thump and went upstairs to check on the source of the noise. Jeff came out of my office. I think he was trying to locate the bread (he has to move his treasures if someone discovers them). I got a piece of bread from the pantry, hid it under the sweater on the chair and told him to "find it."
