Photo Scanner Advice

I'm thinking of scanning all of our old family photos and giving everyone the CDs as Christmas gifts this year. We have a fair number of photos, some of which are in albums. I was thinking of buying this scanner for the job:

I figured Canon is a good brand, the price is quite good, it gets decent reviews, and it appears to have muti-scan functionality so you can put an entire album page of photos on the flatbed and it will realize it's multiple pictures and save them separately.

That said, I know this community is a wealth of knowledge, so I thought I'd ask your advice before I buy. Anyone have any experience with this kind of project? Would you recommend a different scanner, or does this one seem ok?
