I am pathetic. I can't even seem to get the games started.
How do you practice and perfect 'drop it' when the dog won't 'take it'? When Zibi has something he wants badly (read: dead animal part, or pork chop bone off the curb) trading doesn't even work. I'm rarely carrying anything as enticing as dead things. He's not much into 'fetch' but when he is, he mostly doesn't bring the thing all the way back to me. He drops it part way. If he gets it at all. He sometimes initiates tug but he can lose interest in that fast. If he lets go and then gets a treat, it's all over. He just wants the treat and couldn't care less about the tug thing. *sigh*
I'm flummoxed on how to set up a practice session. Even with the MSP hand block strategy for leave it, I only get one attempt. Once blocked (in this artificial situation), Zibi won't even look at IT again, much less try to get it. Whatever IT is. For 'take it', I might get one or two quickies, but he spits it out before I can even ask him to. After two, he won't take the thing again. :?
