When dogs come to me for a stay, people often ask with concern, “Do you think she’ll remember me?”
The answer is unequivocally YES! Even young pups, as long as they have been in your home for a few weeks, will remember you for the rest of their lives.
As a trainer, one of the delights of the job is to see a dog I’ve worked with years ago light up with recognition when we meet again. Wagging, ears back, often vocalizing their delight - the emotion shown seems little different than what I feel when I spot a dear friend I have not seen in years. (Hint: If a dog does not light up with delight when she sees her teacher, that’s the wrong teacher for your dog!)
So, no worries. When your dog comes home from a long spell away, she will greet you for what you are: beloved family members and dear friends. She will not forget you anymore than you will forget her.

Remembered after seven YEARS!
My boyfriend during my sophomore year of college gave me a stray who wandered up to his fraternity, and she adored him. After that year, though, he graduated and we didn't see each other until 7 years later when we got together with our families.
